Changes Coming to Iowa Medicaid Pregnancy and Postpartum Coverage Beginning January 1, 2025

Chart Showing Iowa Medicaid Income Guidelines

Two key changes are coming to Iowa Medicaid health insurance on January 1, 2025. These will affect people during pregnancy and the postpartum period (the time after a person has a baby).

1. Health care coverage will extend to 12 months after a pregnancy ends. This can help to keep people healthy.

To be covered, a person must tell Iowa Medicaid when:

  • They become pregnant
  • A due date changes
  • A pregnancy ends

2.  To get Iowa Medicaid for pregnancy and postpartum care, family income (before taxes) must be at or below 215% of the federal poverty level (FPL). For pregnancy coverage, unborn babies are counted in the household size. See the chart for the new guidelines.

Medicaid (215% FPL)
# of People in Household Income Limit
2 $43,946
3 $55,513
4 $67,080
5 $78,647
6 $90,214
7 $101,781
8 $113,348
For each additional person, add: $11,567
