What is I-Smile Silver?
I-Smile Silver is a pilot project in Scott, Lee and Van Buren Counties that works to connect older adults with oral health care. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services administers the project using funding from the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation. The project is an initiative of the Lifelong Smiles Coalition and began in November 2014.
Who does I-Smile Silver help?
The target population for I-Smile Silver is nursing home residents, Medicaid Elderly Waiver participants, home health recipients, and other Scott County residents over age 60 who may need help accessing dental care. The I-Smile Silver Coordinator is a local resource to help facilitate access to care.
Why is oral health important at any age?
Our teeth allow us to eat as well as speak and smile with confidence. The health of your mouth impacts the rest of your body. Daily brushing and flossing and visiting your dentist regularly helps keep your teeth and body healthy.
Why is I-Smile Silver important?
Through the work of I-Smile Silver and our community partners, dental care will be more accessible, dental disease will be prevented, and Scott County’s older adults will maintain overall health and wellness.
