The Scott County Jail is a 394 bed 24/7 facility that serves the communities and various law enforcement agencies of Scott County. The Jail is overseen by the Sheriff of Scott County and employs more than 70 corrections staff.
The Scott County Jail is a direct supervision facility with correctional officers being placed in housing units to observe and interact with inmates rather than isolating them behind bars or traditional barriers.
Corrections officers complete a 13 week training period with a Field Training Officer. During this period they are trained in use of interpersonal communication or IPC skills, defensive tactics, the principles of direct supervision, and complete a certified jail course at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
Once new officers have completed their yearlong probationary period they have the opportunity for further training and advancement in the organization as Corrections Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) member, Weapons Qualification for Armed Transport Officers, and many more...
