In accordance with Chapter 317, Code of Iowa, 1997 Scott County is required to annually adopt a weed destruction program. Pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 317, Code of Iowa, and Chapter 58 of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Administrative Code. Not all declared noxious weeds are prioritized for control by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. The weed destruction program establishes the dates by which various weeds must be abated. Failure to comply with due notice of an order to abate can result in the County contracting to have the weeds abated and assessing the property owner for the cost plus an administrative fee.
Class A noxious weeds listed in Chapter 58 of the Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Administrative Code, 21-58.4(317); all Class A weeds, listed below, must be eradicated.

Class B noxious weeds listed in Chapter 58 of the Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Administrative Code, 21-58.4(317), all Class B weeds, listed below, need to be controlled at such time in each year and in such manner as shall prevent said weeds from blooming or coming to maturity and as often thereafter as is necessary. Weather conditions may cause weeds to mature several weeks ahead of normal and consequently require control measures prior to the listed dates.
