The Assessor's new 2024 property data and assessed values will be updated to the Scott County Assessor’s Beacon website on or before April 1, 2024. Also, assessment change notices will be mailed out before April 1, to any property where the assessment changed from January 2023 to January 2024. The mailed notices and website updates will reflect the properties condition as of January 1, 2024.
If you disagree with your 2024 assessment, you have the right to protest it. To protest your property’s 2024 assessment, you can do one or both of the following. It is strongly recommended to start with an informal review by the Assessor’s Office before going to the Board of Review, but is not mandatory to do so.
Contact the Assessor’s Office for an informal assessment review of your property any time between April 2 and April 25 (earlier is better). In an Assessor’s informal review, if the Assessor finds justification to adjust your property’s assessment, the Assessor can do so. This is usually accomplished with a quick walk-through of your property by Assessor staff and it is free of charge and handled at the lowest level.
Or you may petition semi-formally to the Board of Review between April 2 and April 30. If you petition to the Board of Review, you have the option to provide proof to the Board either in-person or by submitting documents/evidence only, and if proven, the Board can adjust the value and/or overrule the Assessor’s Office.
Board of Review petitions can be filed online using the Beacon website or PDF versions can be found on the Iowa Department of Revenue’s website. To file a petition online, just go to the Beacon website, view your property between April 2 and April 30, and click “Protest My Assessment” at bottom of page and follow the prompts.
