Protesting an Assessment:
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the Scott County Assessor’s Office is closed to the public, but will continue to operate on a limited basis. All business will be conducted by phone and email only until further notice.
Please call or email with questions. If no answer, leave a message and someone will return your call or email in order received. Please be patient as there will likely be delays. During the next few weeks we will operate with limited staff, and may even close the County Assessor’s Office completely for a period of time. Do not visit the Scott County Admin Center unnecessarily putting yourself and others at risk for services already provided online.
To allow property owners the opportunity to protest their assessments if desired, we provide the following alternatives:
- This year, for everyone’s safety, the Board of Review will NOT hold in-person (oral) hearings. It is likely all assessment appeals will be non-oral (written) hearings. Phone hearings “may” be allowed in place of oral hearings but on a very limited basis at the Board’s discretion.
- It is imperative to provide all documented proof well in advance of your hearing for the Board’s consideration.
- Appeal Information Is Online. Use the County Assessor’s website for information on protesting your assessment.
- Use online assessment appeal form. While viewing your property on assessor’s website, at bottom of page, click Appeal Assessment.
- Link only available from April 2 through April 30th.
- Email or phone the Assessor’s Office. Conversations with assessor staff to conduct an informal review and answer questions about your assessment.
- Board of Review appeal forms are available on IDR website at: https://tax.iowa.gov/forms/petition-local-board-review-regular-session-56-064
- Email forms. Emailed forms are accepted. Even if not using a form, general emails will be accepted as protests. At minimum, must identify property, give reason for protesting, and give your name and contact information.
