On Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 at 9:00 am, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a swearing in ceremony for the appointment of Shawn Roth as Chief Deputy. The ceremonies will be held in the Sheriff’s Office Pavilion Conference Room.
Major Shawn Roth Biography - Shawn Roth grew up in East Dubuque, Illinois and graduated from East Dubuque High School. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He completed his internship with the Dubuque County, Iowa Sheriff’s Office.
Shawn started his career in law enforcement with the Davenport Police Department in 2000. He has been assigned to the patrol division, tactical operations bureau (gang unit), and the criminal investigations division during his sixteen year career. While assigned to the patrol division, he became a field training officer and was assigned to assist with the training of new officers. Shawn also received training in street crimes and criminal interdiction.
Shawn was assigned to the criminal investigation division in 2005 until being promoted to the rank of corporal in 2006. As a corporal, he went back to patrol for approximately nine months before returning to investigations. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in November of 2009 and by April 2010 he was assigned to supervise the Juvenile/Sex Crimes Unit. In June 2016 he took over the supervision of the Person Crimes Unit.
Shawn received training in interview/interrogation, homicide investigation, identity theft, money laundering, dignitary protection, incident command, fair and impartial policing, and supervision while assigned to the criminal investigation division. He has also supervised investigations pertaining to cases involving internet crimes and was involved with Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC). He has received training in ICAC operational and investigative standards, Craigslist investigations, Peer to Peer investigations, and Google Voice training. Shawn completed the Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities Certificate Program at the Georgetown University Center for Juvenile Justice Reform. Along with a group of stakeholders, Shawn assisted with the creation and implementation of a Juvenile Diversion Program in Davenport.
Over the course of his career Shawn has received several letters of commendation and was named the Jaycees outstanding young police officer in 2008. He is a member in good standing with the Iowa State Police Association as well as the Union of Professional Police Officers. He was elected to the executive board of the Union of Professional Police Officers in 2007 and served as president.
Shawn currently resides in Davenport with his wife Stacy and their three children, Alyssa, Emma, and Jackson.
