Requests For Public Information And Documents Iowa Open Records Law & Freedom of Information (FOIA)
Scott County is committed to ensuring open public access to all county records to the extent permitted by the Iowa State Open Records Act and Federal Freedom of Information Act. Many public records are available online. If you are unable to locate a specific record, you may complete the FOIA request form and email it to FOIA@scottcountyiowa.gov. The Human Resources Director oversees the public records request process and is available to assist with questions. You may also contact County Administration, the Auditor’s Office, or a specific department for assistance.
While the form is recommended, it is not required when submitting a request for information. All requests will be processed in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws. Although many FOIA requests can be fulfilled quickly, some may require additional research or review. You will receive a response within ten (10) business days. A fee of $0.25 per page applies to requests containing ten (10) or more pages. Additionally, if an extensive search requiring more than thirty (30) minutes of staff time is necessary, a fee may be charged in accordance with the County’s Administrative Policy.
Certain records classified as confidential under state law may be exempt from public disclosure. Confidential records include, but are not limited to, medical records, employee-related files, documents concerning litigation or claims, and names or addresses of complainants. Confidential records may be withheld, and any confidential information contained within an otherwise public record may be redacted before release.
